6th Annual Neighborhood Symposium  Saturday, April 30, 2016  8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  The citywide Neighborhood Symposium is a free event hosted by the Neighborhood Advisory Board and Community Development Department. The Symposium consists of presentations, workshops, and training to engage neighborhoods and educate residents on topics that impact their communities.   The theme of the 6th Annual Neighborhood Symposium is Using What You've Got to Get What You Want: Utilizing Assets to Build Strong Neighborhoods. Dr. William Rohe, Distinguished Professor of City and Regional Planning at UNC Chapel Hill will bring the keynote address, "Why Neighborhoods Change and What Can Be Done About It." Community champions will be in attendance to lead discussion on how residents can contribute to their community in a session entitled, "Neighbors Helping Neighbors." Participants will prepare to mobilize their neighborhoods by practicing Asset Based Community Development techniques to build upon their neighborhood's unique strengths. Staff will be on site to showcase support services throughout the day.  Breakfast is provided at the Symposium event. Pre-registration is encouraged. Call 252.329.4504 for more information.
