6 arrested, 30 hurt during Villanova post-game celebration

Villanova fans took to the streets early Tuesday morning to celebrate following the Wildcats’ dramatic 77-74 upset win over North Carolina in the NCAA Championship game.

6 arrested, 30 hurt during Villanova post-game celebration

Radnor police Lt. Chris Flanagan said there were 6 to 8 arrests and 25 people suffered minor injuries. Five people were hospitalized and one person was given a citation.

"We're just trying to clean it up," Flanagan said, just before 2:30 a.m., adding that police were not forcing students to leave the celebration, but giving "general reminders."

As Villanova clinched the title, The Pavillion erupted in cheers. Students then stormed out of the venue to celebrate the win, and partied on campus well into the early-morning hours.

As officers moved onto campus, many students followed. Those still at the corner of Ithan and Lancaster lit on fire a bush that had been torn from a flower bed and danced around it.

Despite the number of students out in the streets celebrating, the festivities were mostly calm and peaceful.
