- A warning for bank customers who use ATMs...card skimmers have been found at bank ATMs in Greenville.

Police spokeswoman Kristen Hunter says so far they have discovered skimmers at four First Citizens Bank locations in the city.

An employee at one of the locations made the discovery while inspecting the ATM prior to opening.

The locations are First Citizens locations on South Memorial Drive, West 3rd, Stantonsburg Road, and on Greenville Boulevard.

Card skimmers are small devices that attach to the front of where you insert yours ATM card, allowing thieves the ability to steal your card number.

Many times, the crooks also place a hidden camera nearby in order to record your card's PIN as well. In these cases, the camera was part of a plastic overlay on the money dispenser.

Police say they do not believe anyone's information was compromised, since the thieves would have had to retrieve the skimmers in order to get the numbers.

First Citizens staff are monitoring account activity. Police say if you have used one of the ATM locations within the past 24 hours, you should contact your bank.
